This past month I have been very focused on determining my concentration, and trying to come up with some strong breadth pieces. I also directed a lot of my attention to exploring new styles and medias. In the photos above, especially the two skulls that are in oil pastels and the alpaca which is entirely in pen, show the different styles I approached. The skulls are created in oil pastel, which is an unfamiliar medium for me and I do not have a lot of experience using it. I enjoyed creating this piece because I just went for it, I persistently worked on it in class and collaborated with my peers. I also got great feedback from Mrs. Haggerty multiple times which allowed me to show progress on this piece because I went back in forth a few times and changed it various times. I improved and learned skill building by experimenting with new techniques, and improved my artistic behavior by opening up to a new form of art. the alpaca piece that I created started out as a quick sketch when I was bored in a hotel room. But once I started drawing it, I decided to try and make it a somewhat strong piece that expresses freedom in the lines and confidence. This was fun to make because I used an everyday drawing utensil; a pen. I also kept the pen to the paper the whole time and didn't lift it up. I feel as though these two artworks show my progress during the month of November because as previously mentioned, they are completely different and demonstrate the range of approach to each piece and the variety in skills used to create each one.

During art class these past couple weeks, we worked on a couple different projects, one of them was based off of the guerilla girls and the art of complaining. And the second project that we focused on related to David Brook and his “never seen, never will”. I tried to incorporate lots of vibrant colors, and “groovy” designs. For the second piece, I choose to recreate my own polaroid pictures of people I will never be able to see or meet. I am currently still working on the project and trying to figure out how to fix it because I feel like it's missing something. But so far I really enjoy it because similar to the previous project, we were given a lot of freedom and were able to use our imagination to create a really interesting piece.
NEVER SEE, NEVER WILL...When starting this project, we were asked to create a piece that portrays something, or someone we will never see. For this piece, I wanted to represent people I admire that I have never seen, and never will get the chance to. I had originally planned to create my own polaroids of 6 different people; Elvis, James Dean, Amy whinehouse, Marylyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, and frank Sinatra. I then planned to create my own marble background onto a piece of wood. I researched a few tutorials and videos to practice different techniques. Also, I haven't completed all 6 polaroids because I continuously re create them because I am not satisfied with them way they've turned out, but I used a clear spray over the paper to create the glossy finish of an actual photog2raph. I really enjoyed this project because I was able to explore on my own, and it was interesting to hear everyones ideas because they were all so different. Lastly, I really enjoyed this piece because there wasn't any influence on my ideas from outside resources. All the inspiration was my own, and the piece was very fun and an awesome project to build skills and explore new medias. PLEASE COMPLAIN... The please complain project was definitely one of my favorite projects. It was so fun and I felt that I really builded my skills on taking risks. My idea was to create a poster to promote the time period. I referenced Peter Max's artwork because he is known for using lively colors and creating really fun pieces. I embraced the vibrant colors that were so profound in the 70's, and incorporated them into my own artwork. I also decided to work with watercolor because it is such a free spirited style and you have such little controls over the flow of the water and paint. I enjoyed this project because we were given a lot of freedom to come up with our own ideas and create a very interesting and original idea. After the first major assignment we had during the first two weeks of school was to recreate a part of picassos famous Guernica mural. We were each given a small square to recreate focusing on value study and shading techniques. I think I struggled a little with my values because they were definitely a little too light and I didn't distinguish the different values very we'll. However, I found this assignment very interesting and I really enjoyed collaborating with my classmates to recreate such an amazing piece. I also loved how at first, it was hard too imagine what the piece would look like as a whole, but when we finally came together and put all the individual pieces together, it looked awesome. I would definitely do this agin, and I learned a lot about value and how important it is to try and make it as accurate as possible.
